The Michigan Education Association and Instructional Technology Services, Inc. are pleased to introduce the "MEA Online Learning Institute".

Teachers:
The Professional Development and Human Rights Department and ITS, Inc. have created a customized, online learning package for teachers that includes core academic subject, self-paced modules including the following:
1. Michigan Curriculum Framework
2. K-8 Math Grade Level Content Expectations
3. English/Language Arts
4. Reading
5. Mathematics
6. Engaging Students in the Science Classroom
7. Using Primary Sources in Social Studies
8. Developing Webquests

MEA members will be able to participate in this learning package and earn between 15 - 30 clock hours of professional development for a discounted rate of $79. In addition, members will have the option of paying for 1 - 2 EDU 508 graduate credit hours from Central Michigan University.

This online learning package for MEA members includes core educational safety modules including the following:

3. School Violence Intervention

New Teachers Series:
The New Teacher Series is our latest combination of multiple modules that help beginning teachers with the challenges and difficulties they may encounter in their first few years of teaching. This series is perfect for a new teacher just getting started or those hoping to add some new and innovative ideas to their “bag of tricks”. The New Teacher Series presents introduction modules that cover topics related to the classroom and include how to plan for instruction and assessment, dealing with behavior and discipline, motivating students, interacting with parents, and the creating a positive learner- centered environment Other modules in this series focus on helping new teachers adjust to the high-demands of a teaching career. These modules focus on new teacher induction, mentoring, teacher qualities, teacher motivation and the prevention of teacher burn-out. Upon completion of these modules a teacher can expect to be able apply the skills and strategies learned in their own classroom. The modules offer various teaching advice and resources to ease the transition for a teacher in his/ her first years of a teaching career.

State Board-Continuing Education Units (SB-CEUs) Available for MEA Members
Upon completion of the Michigan Education Association (MEA) sponsored online course/professional development program from Instructional Technology Services, Inc. and no more than 30 days immediately following the end date of the offering, the participant must submit to the MEA SB-CEU coordinator a MEA SB-CEU application form, a copy of the transcript/certificate of completion provided by Instructional Technology Services, Inc. (ITS) which affirms the number of contact/clock (on task clock hours) hours for the online course/professional development program.

Within 45 days from receipt of the SB-CEU Application Form and a copy of the transcript/certificate of completion from ITS, the MEA will issue a certificate specifying the number of SB-CEUs awarded for the offering.

Participants must choose if they want to receive SB-CEU credits or college credits, but may NOT receive both types of credits.
